Myofascial Cupping

Myofascial Cupping

Myofascial Cupping involves the use of glass cups, which are placed on the body and the air suctioned out of them a little, which causes the soft tissue to pull up slightly into the cup. Unlike other massages techniques which solely uses downward compression, Myofascial Cupping also lifts and separates soft tissue which can allow nutrient-rich blood to flow into the area as well provide a passive soft tissue stretch.

Incorporating Myofascial Cupping into a remedial massage treatment can have the added benefit of effectively treating two areas of the body at the same time (e.g. static cups on the upper back, while the therapist provides a deep tissue massage to the lower back). When the deep tissue massage moves to the area that has already received Myofacsial cupping, the soft tissue is already more pliable and can receive a more effective deep tissue massage to follow.

We do not use heat or fire as with traditional Chinese cupping techniques, but the air is instead suctioned out of the cups with a suction tool. Myofacial cupping should be completely painless and the benefits of cupping can be felt for the next 72 hours.

Remedial Massage

Remedial Massage is a treatment that manipulates the soft tissues of the body (muscles, tendons and ligaments) for a specific therapeutic effect. To put it simply – remedial massage with help you recover from an injury, treat your pain, or remove dysfunction within the body, through directed treatment of specific conditions. This is opposed to a relaxation massage which aims to relax the body, relieve stress and give the body a little TLC through flowing movements and gentle kneading of the muscles.

Various remedial techniques can be used, such as trigger point therapy, myofascial cupping, deep tissue massage, and myofascial release. As your therapist I will assess which technique will give you the most benefit, and it may be a combination of all of the above. Firm pressure is used, but always within your pain tolerance.
